Physiotherapy Assessment

At Therapy2u,  we have a wealth of experience in providing telephone and video physiotherapy assessments and advice to those with musculoskeletal conditions. We do appreciate that some people prefer a F2F assessment and we are happy to come to you if you live in the local geographical area.

Evidence for virtual physiotherapy assessments:

When many people think of physiotherapy they think of manual therapy, but while this is an important part of a clinician’s work it is only one element. Clinicians can use virtual physiotherapy to provide education and advice to help patients manage and improve their symptoms. They can also guide patients with self-management and progression support techniques, including exercise therapy and rehabilitation, self-joint mobilisation, self-trigger point release and other soft-tissue treatments and functional movement re-education strategies. Clinicians can also advise on the purchase of appropriate home exercise equipment and other off-the-shelf devices which may support recovery, such as wrist splints or supports.

Until fairly recently, virtual physiotherapy services represented the minority of support offered by both the private and public healthcare sectors. This was until the Covid-19 crisis created a sudden need for digital services to be rolled out more widely across the industry.

Benefits of virtual physiotherapy assessments:

  • Fast access to physiotherapy assessments
  • Convenience of not having to take time off work to attend appointments
  • Receive early treatment and management advice, including electronic access to an individualised exercise program following assessment
  • Appropriate signposting to electronic self-help resources
  • Fast onward referral to other services or for further investigations if needed
  • Follow up appointments to check your progress and make any changes needed to the management of your condition

What does a virtual assessment involve?

  • An initial assessment will usually be a 45 minute appointment.
  • Your physio will ask you specific questions about your condition, and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have
  • A diagnosis will be given, with advice about how best to manage your symptoms
  • If a home exercise program is advised, this can be emailed to you or sent in the post
  • Follow up a telephone or video assessments are offered – this will typically be a 30 minute appointment
